ACORN, SEIU & Obama
Hat Tip Openzine
According to Sweetness-light, there is a very intimate relationship between the three. The connection between Obama and ACORN is of course, very well established. He was a “community organizer for ACORN’s Project Vote in 1992 and also represented them in several law suits. The relationship between ACORN and the SEIU is less well known. They share the same physical mailing address.
Of course, Obama denies the connection. However, Chicago Reader, reported “another strong supporter of Obama’s work–as an organizer, as a lawyer, and now as a candidate–is Madeline Talbott, lead organizer of the feisty ACORN community organization, a group that’s a thorn in the side of most elected officials. “I can’t repeat what most ACORN members think and say about politicians. But Barack has proven himself among our members. He is committed to organizing, to building a democracy. Above all else, he is a good listener, and we accept and respect him as a kindred spirit, a fellow organizer.”
Another organization, Labor Pains, documents that union dues from SEIU is used to fuel ACORN. According to Alternet, “Schwarzenegger’s office was advised this week by federal health officials that the wage reduction, which will save California $74 million, violates provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Failure to revoke the scheduled wage cut before it takes effect July 1 could cost California $6.8 billion in stimulus money, according to state officials.” This was after SEIU requested the intervention from Obama’s DHHS.
Now, for any of you who were paying attention, yesterday, Obama had a chit-chat with the health care industry, AMA, etc. and asked them to cut costs. So, this contradictory stance on demanding wages restored to SEIU members can only be understood if you realize that SEIU was one of Obama’s biggest campaign contributors. SEIU is also highly involved in the so-called “Fair Choice Act”, which removes the secret ballot when voting in a union.
Here he is at an ACORN Forum in 2007, promising that ACORN will help shape his presidency. His agenda is “class warfare”, plain and simple. “The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” (Margaret Thatcher)
