7th of the “Haditha 8″ Cases Dismissed
Back in 2005, when 15 civilians were killed by US Marines, Rep. John Murtha claimed some clairvoyancy in knowing that they killed “in cold blood…overreacting because of pressure”, according to a report by James Taranto of the Wall St. Journal. The incident had occurred in November 2005 and the Pentagon took up an investigation. Murtha had initially voted for the War, but then became an anti-war advocate. Obviously, his statement is contradictory, since pre-meditation excludes reactivity.
Apparently it all started with Times journalist Tim McGirk, who alleged that the Marines “went on a rampage in the village after the attack, killing 15 unarmed Iraqis in their homes, including seven women and three children.”Most of his report was gleaned from the families of the deceased. Not exactly objective reporting.
Obama was wrong about it too. When asked about the remarks of Murtha in June 2006, Obama replied “What I know is here is a guy who served our country. I would never second guess John Murtha... I think he’s somebody who knows of which he speaks.” Guess Obama doesn’t think that the military serve our country, only his political friends. Whatever happened to the “presumption of innocence” from someone who was supposed to be an adjunct Constitutional lecturer?
