The One-Way “Race Card”

I used to be a big fan of Jamie Fox and Chris Rock, until they decided that it was really okay to make offensive racist jokes about White people. The latest sordid story is supposedly a “comedy rant” Of Jamie Fox on his radio show about 16 year old Miley Cyrus. He tells her, supposedly jokingly, “to make a sex tape (like Lindsay Lohan) , shoot some heroin (like his kids?) and get a “gum job (what’s wrong with her periodontium?).” Now, I can remember, last year when Miley posed for a rather “artistic” shot (above), that I made a statement that I didn’t think she would go the route of Britney Spears, simply because she didn’t fit the psychiatric profile. There is a huge difference between the way the “Spears Family” pushed Britney, to the point where they lost their home in bankruptcy and Miley Cyrus’ own family. Of course, everyone knows Billy Cyrus as a well-established musician in his own right. From what I could see of her latest movie, every attempt was made to keep a modest profile.

Now, as I have said before, when others are calling names, the name-calling often tells us more about that individual making the offense, rather than about the object of his/her rant. In Jamie’s case, he was abandoned at 7 months and raised by relatives. No doubt, he has issues to deal with because of that abandonment. In fact, he reminded me of a pimp talking. An, supposedly, he had permission to savage her because she made a simple request of Radiohead to meet them backstage. according to Rolling Stone, she and Kanye West wanted to meet their idols and were snubbed. Her mistake was that she complained about the snub. Possibly Thom Yorke hasn’t outgrown his anger from being born with a deformed, closed eye, and resents the natural, non-contrived beauty of Miley.

Chris Rock famously talks about West Virginians as “in-breds” and “white trailer trash” and thinks it’s a joke. The list goes on. It’s time that African American comedians need to check their jokes before airing them, as the “so-called Post-Racial Era” that was ushered in by our first Arab-American President is hardly a reality, if it’s only a one way street.
